Summer Holiday Training Sessions for Juniors

As we finally reach the long-awaited school summer holidays, there are a number of exciting opportunities for training at The Karate Studio over the next six weeks or so. These start from Monday 22nd July and will run through until schools start to go back during the week of 2nd September. I will be making training available to all junior students TWICE each day, Monday - Friday, as well as the usual Saturday afternoon sessions. All the Monday to Friday classes will start at 10:30am (morning session) and then 3:30pm (afternoon session). Costs for these extra classes will be as follows, depending on what you preference is: Per class only = £5 (each session) Per week = £15 (unlimited sessions) Per month = £35 (unlimited sessions) AS SPACES ARE VERY LIMITED HERE AT THE KARATE STUDIO, THESE SESSIONS MUST BE BOOKED AT LEAST 24HRS PRIOR TO COMING ALONG. I will only be able to let the first 4 students for each session join in the training. In addition to this, any new members who apply to join the dojo during August will benefit from half-price membership at just £10 for the year instead of the normal £20.

Karate for Nervous Novices

Each Thursday evening, for one hour, I run a class specifically aimed at those people who may have always wished they had started karate training, but were just a little too nervous about taking that first step or felt that the opportunity had somehow passed them by. As with all of my sessions at the Karate Studio, the class size is imited to a maximum of 4 students, and aimed at adults only. With 25 years of experience in karate training, I am capable of exceeding your requirements and creating a plan that will help you reach your goals based on the skills developed in traditional karate training. Using tried and tested methods of using the tools of karate, we can overcome hurdles to enhance your well-being and ensure a balanced development. We will train together in my purpose-built studio and ensure the best results for you; I will work with you to keep you on track and motivated to reach your goals, whether they be centred around boosting your self-esteem and confidence, developing your self-defence skills or just for overall fitness.

I understand that adopting any new fitness habits is difficult and often times fails. My goal is to change your view on using karate training as a way to fitness, so that it becomes a part of who you are and your overall lifestyle.  I strongly believe that if you practice karate regularly and make it a positive habit, you will be able to obtain a happier and overall healthier lifestyle.

Our karate taught is relaxed and free-flowing with natural movements, so strength and power are not a requirement. After training for just a short while you will be fitter, with increased coordination and flexibility.

The art of karate was originated and is still commonly practised on the remote Japanese island of Okinawa. This island prides itself on having one of the highest proportion of people with extraordinary longevity and this is due in part to the continued practice of karate. My own karate teacher is 75 years old and still actively trains every single day.

You will benefit from both the mental and physical aspects that you'll learn, whatever your age.
Depending on your individual goals, I will use a structured system to teach you effective self-defence techniques starting with simple, easy to remember techniques and exercises.

You will progress and develop at your own pace and in a friendly, helpful and safe environment to take you through various gardes (if required) to Black Belt and beyond. You'll be surprised how quickly you can learn the basics!

You will be treated with respect, courtesy and patience at all times, and I can remember being a complete novice myself so I understand how big making this first step will be.
When you first start with me, simply wear a T-shirt and loose fitting jogging bottoms. We go bare feet, so there is no need to worry about shoes.

Just bring plain water to stay hydrated and plenty of enthusiasm!

 We were fortunate enough to have a visit at our dojo from Woolston Sensei. We thoroughly enjoyed our session, spending a whole day learning applications, bunkai, kata and some history of Matsubayashi-Ryu. Woolston Sensei is very knowledgeable and easy to listen to - as a family of three including a teenage child he pitched the day perfectly for all the participants.
